Newsweek: Is Crowdsourcing on the Decline?

Check out this article from the August 26 issue of Newsweek.  Among the ideas posited:

  • Wikipedia editorship is flat.
  • Doing work for free by building Wikipedia entries, etc., is not as novel as it used to be.
  • Social media is alive and well in self-oriented sites such as Flickr, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.
  • Blogging is on the decline among post-high school young adults.
  • Only one in four Web users leaves a comment on a blog.
  • "Rewarding" blog commenters has stimulated an increase in comments on sites like the Huffington Post. "Benefits" include special badges and the ability to edit or delete others' comments.  (Oh my word -- we could have a whole John Dewey discussion about that point alone.
Take a look ...
